Knew it wouldn't take long to see driver issues in Win7

Post by MaddogF16 »

Take a look at this forum for drivers at MS, for fun refresh it every 5 mins or so and see how many new issues and replies there are, most common response is "well if the manufacture doesn't make a W7 driver then your SOL".

People who don't think every OS has issues, and that it just works are operating under a delusion
--there seem to be many of them

That will annoy the people who like HP Multi-Function Printers; at least they know it will be fixed, but if it's an emergency printout, maybe stick with XP or use Linux and HPlip

I don't think there is any windows OS as a live CD, so you will be stuck with an install to find out what works, what doesn't

Oh but they could run the compatibility test first  apparently didn't help on the peripherals. I'm sure all that does is review hardware list and says "yep you meet our minimum,go ahead and buy sucker".

The prudent wait for SP1 to appear, and then wait a bit longer to see what SP1 broke, then wait a bit longer for SP2 to see if it repaired the fixes of SP1, then they wait a bit longer for SP3 - etc. - using Linux or something else in the meantime. If one waits long enough, there is little need to buy Windows. 7 offers no real improvement over XP. MS is still licensing XP downgrades by OEMs and will until next Spring.

What few folk seem to get - Windows releases are used to force hardware updates; to sell new computers and components. The retail market is one thing; the business market is something else again - it's huge. As the OEMs participate more and more in the Linux kernel development, there will be a corresponding impetus to "legacy" hardware which will encourage folk to update their hardware.

The primary reason that Linux is not the desktop is that the OEMs cannot rely on Linux to deliver them new hardware sales on a continuing basis or even a beginning basis. There is always a group of "misfits" who insist on using older equipment that works fine in Linux (I speak as an OEM purveyor might) or new lowest-priced equipment that doesn't require 6 gb RAM to fly a hogged-up OS.There is little reason for an OEM to stuff Linux in a retail box.

Thought there are many drivers that have not been written for W7, there are a lot of drivers for Vista that will work just fine in W7. However, some of them cause serious issues. Either way, I'll stick with linux.
