Why are smart cards/credit cards difficult to duplicate
I received a new credit card with a microchip on it, and the letter that came with it said, "this technology is nearly impossible to duplicate." Why? When would it NOT be nearly impossible?

Basically, there are two types of security:
- security by obscurity ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security_through_obscurity )
- security by design ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_by_design )
I guess, that in case of the credit card, it is the 1st one, which is not very secure.
... Phillips used to think, that no one can break into his cheap RFID chip. Nowadays, almost everyone can break it at home.
