Linus Torvalds: Windows Vista is over-hyped

Postby scorp123 on Thu Jan 18, 2007 10:39 am

.... With the imminent release of Windows Vista to consumers this month, Linus Torvalds, the father of Linux, has claimed Microsoft's latest desktop effort is over-hyped and not a revolutionary advancement.

"I don't actually think that something like Vista will change how people work that much," Torvalds told Computerworld. "I think it, to some degree, has been over-hyped as being something completely new and I don't actually think it is."

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think the only thing 'revolutionary' about Vista is the level of content protection that will occur. That is scary enough, and will probably have some eventual impact on Linux.

Other than that, the original plans for Vista have been toned down due to development problems and the fact that they had to get a product out soon to recover some of the tremendous costs associated with Vista (estimated by some to be over $10 billion).

All i can say is i happen to come across a Vista disk so i installed it and had it running for i would say maybe 4 hours then it got removed and i went back to winXp... Vista had nothing special from what i seen except that it had compatibility issues with almost all the software i wanted to install in it.. (main reason for the quick removal) but since then i come across this thing called Linux Mint.. And all i can say i am a Mint Junkie now :) Still a noob to the Linux / Ubuntu Os but im trying to learn what i can and i am enjoying myself with it more than i did with the vista.. for the little time i ran vista on my pc..
