xorg/xrandr size doesn't match monitor/xdpyinfo size

Postby boik on Fri Nov 15, 2013 5:35 am

Hi guys, using Mint 14 and have a monitor issue. I've been given a samsung 2032MW which I've seen working at optimum size (1680x1050) on a Mac mini.

Plugged it into my Geforce 8200 using HDMI, and can't get it to display properly. It always displays at 1920x1080 (as reported by both the monitor itself and xdpyinfo, and my eyes!), despite selecting 1680x1050 and xrandr reporting that it is set to that size. I have checked the modeline using gtf and it matches perfectly. I've tried nvidia current and nvidia 173 and I think when they were both missing it did the same with nouveau.

Is this a known bug as it's driving me mad. I'm a unix admin and happy to write an xorg.conf like the old days if that's what it takes, but my first tries at that didn't change anything.

Any help gratefully received!

Boik

OK, seems to work with VGA cable at that res with the same settings. Would prefer to use HDMI, so if anyone does have any ideas I'd be very grateful.
