Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion dv6-3050us, a quadcore phenomen II with 8GB ram and a curse: two graphics card ATI, one HD 4250 and a HD 5650 with HDMI output.
In windows 7 I can switch between the two cards and when I have the 5650 switched I have HDMI ouptut, Is very easy to change cards, I program two hotkeys and changes are in the fly.
I use linux from long time ago, and before linux exist I made software for UNIX. (Now I make software to windows and linux, in special industrial sotware, labs software and for wood enterprises)

I have installed linux mint 13 mate 64bits.
Now with the latest ati drivers downloades from the amd web site.
I need to change from one card to other, actually i only can use the hd4250, I can't change to the hd5650 and no HDMI output
When I try with the driver function to change grapic card, make me reboot to make the change, but nothing change.
Other point is the heat, that meke me think boot cards are on.
I love linux and I wants this works well.

As for both cards being turned on it's not true:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series]
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Madison [Radeon HD 5000M Series] (rev ff)
You only have 4200 turned on (rev ff means it's turned off).

I was dealing with hybrid graphics a while ago and couldn't resolve it. Maybe something has changed now - I hope!

As right now it seems like it runs on my Radeon HD 5XXX card but I woudl like the possebility to change to the 42XX card when doing task that don't need the extra power.

Using a freshly installed Mint 14 currently.
