Sometimes blurry graphics after halt, Maya KDE

Post by Myoxocephalus »

Hi!
I recently installed Maya KDE on my laptop. It is working fine, but I'm haunted by a strange bug: sometimes the graphics becomes blurry - not so blurry as to make the machine entirely unusable, but enough that it becomes very difficult to read text. It happenes a few times a week, and then always after a reboot or hibernation. It may disappear after another hiberation or reboot, but not always. tty1-6 is affected as well as tty7. Animation, video etc. works smoothly and without any lagging, but is unclear and murky. I have an onboard Intel graphics controller and an ATI radeon HD5650 card. I don't know which is used normally, but since desktop cube is working smoothly, I suspect it is the ATI card.

Some info;

Is your laptop a hybrid graphics device? If so see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HybridGraphics and perhaps http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1942151 amongst others.
[Edit] your original post and add [SOLVED] once your question is resolved.

It seems to be using hybrid graphics, yes.

~ $ grep -i switcheroo /boot/config-3.2.0-23-generic
CONFIG_VGA_SWITCHEROO=y
~ $ sudo ls -l /sys/kernel/debug/ | grep vgaswitcheroo
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Aug 8 09:48 vgaswitcheroo

The links you presented were interesting to read, thanks! However, I don't quite understand how this should affect this weird bug I'm experiencing? I'll experiment a little, but as this bug is a rather rare occurence, I doubt I'll find the reason for it this way. And, anyway, it could be something completely different than the graphics card, couldn't it? A badly configured xorg.conf (not that I've touched it!) or something? Anyway, thanks for the help thus far!

Did you get this problem solved?

I have the same problems on my mint cinnamon.
And it seems its not on only on this computer.

It doesnt happen on youtbue. But wathcing videos on other sites, like news-sites, and netflix...both sound and graphics get blurry, and it goes on and off, from blurry, to fine, to blurry, to fine...
