Linux Mint 14 ati proprietary driver works on HP Pavilion

Postby ddaniel on Sat Dec 15, 2012 12:33 pm

I found today solution on ati proprietary driver which actually works. I have HP pavilion g7 notebook with hybrid ati/intel graphic and till today I had problem running ati proprietary driver while X server was crashing with segmentation fault. This is my system:

Code: Select all
uname -a
Linux heroina 3.5.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 13 17:49:53 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Caicos [Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series]

X -version
X.Org X Server 1.13.0
Release Date: 2012-09-05
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=linux acpi_backlight=vendor

I followed this workaround https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#WORKAROUND and did:

Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:andrikos/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo apt-get --reinstall install xserver-xorg-video-intel
sudo apt-get -y install fglrx-updates fglrx-amdcccle-updates
sudo aticonfig --initial -f

Ati driver is now working without problems and my comp temperature is drastically lower that it was with opensource driver. Hope this post will help someone with similar issue.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I've been struggling with a lot of problems on my HP Pavilion dv6 with ATI/Intel Hybrid configuration. This tutorial makes everything to work like a charm. Thanks!

This works great on my Hp ProBook 4730s with Intel HD 3000 / ATI Radeon HD 6490M hybrid.
But i got one problem....

When install Adobe Flash downloaded from their site, and installed it as it described in readme... after restart Xserver cannot be started... what could be the problem?

EDIT: I try first to update Adobe Flash to latest version, and after that installed ATI driver, but than when i run sudo aticonfig --initial -f, it says it cannot make xorg.conf file for discrete graphic card.

After that i make fresh install of Mint 14, and i didn't upgrade Flash and everything works great.
Switching from Radeon to Intel graphic card is working from Calayst Control Center :-)

That didn't work for me. I've reinstalled LM 14 6 times, but it results into broken Xserver.
One of the times, AMDCCC was working well; but of curiosity of how I did it so easily, I re-installed LM 14. And next time it didn't work. :?

Please help out. Temp of Laptop is too high, 65 Deg celcius.
