Low color depth on an HD4000

I am running Linux Mint on a Late 2012 Mac Mini i7 3720QM. My desktop applications render at a color depth that is greater than 16, but less than 24. I changed my Xorg.conf settings to 8, 16 and 24 and notice a difference in all of them. I know how a 24 nit image should look like, but the image does not appear as it should.

My current Kernel is:
Linux lord-nix-MacMini 3.5.0-23-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 24 13:15:40 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Another error I see during x start is:
libGL Error: failed to load driver : i965

Is there anything I can do to get a better color depth?

I connected a different monitor and noticed it showing up a better color depth. There is nothing wrong with my monitor as it works fine with my laptop and OSX.
