GeForce 210 + GeForce FX 5200

Postby x00 on Mon Apr 08, 2013 10:34 am

I have an old FX 5200 card which I have used OEM drivers with no problem for a number of years.

I have got a 210 card. They are obviously not in the same series.

I trying to figure out the best way to use them both.

I would like to use three monitors. It may be possible to do that on the one card with firewire.

But as I have an extra card i though I’d use them both.

The problem I'm having is native drivers break for FX 5200, tried and failed.

I'm not sure exactly how i can drive the two. Is it possible? I don't think Nvidia driver installation, was made for this option. I could be wrong.

Any info you would like let me know.

I have seen people use 2 similar cards simultaneously, but usually in the same family. If you can make it work on one card, try that first. You should get better performance and less power consumption out of the GT210, but it can only support 2 monitors. The fx5200 can only support 2 monitors on its own if I recall correctly.
Several of the new Radeon HD cards can support 3 monitors (1xVGA + 1xDVI + 1xHDMI) $29 US after rebate: EDIT: [removed link due to incorrect product description :( ] Be warned that AMD's drivers aren't usually as good as nVidia's. They should be fine on a lower end card like that one though.
If you have a second PCI-e slot you could always install another GT210 and have support for 4 monitors.

As an aside, isn't the FX 5000 series almost 10 years old now? I haven't even seen a 6000 series card for a few years. I used a 6600GT for about 8 months until I bought a brand new 9800GT.

@bigj231

I just want to say that your recommendation is mis-sold. It is not your fault though.

For the record newegg.com wrongly states that version Raedon HD6450 does eyefinity, and therefore can support 3 monitors, and I bought the damn thing an wasted yet more money.

the non-Flex DDR3 does NOT support three monitors.

read this
http://www.sapphireforum.com/showthread ... on-HD-6450

the ones with eyefinity are:
FleX HD 6450 1GB DDR3
HD 6450 OC 512MB GDDR5
HD 6450 512MB GDDR5

I do apologize for that. I didn't know that the description is wrong. I would try with the retailer for a refund/replacement due to an incorrect description. I haven't dealt with them for quite some time (last order was recalled while it was on the delivery truck) but their return service used to be good.
