Graphics card too hot

Post by Def »

Hi,

First time Mint user, not really a linux newbie but not a power user neither, I really like what I'm seeing.
But I have a problem with my graphics card. I installed Linux Mint x64 with Cinnamon a few hours ago and quickly noticed that the graphics card's fan is more noisy than usual. The card is idling at around 70°C (should be around 40) and providing a nice warm output for the bad weather. I never had this kind of problem with this computer with Ubuntu (unity and gnome before), multiple versions of Kubuntu (kde) and windows 7.

The graphics card is a Radeon 6950 with a 6970 bios. The details application list the drivers as: Gallium 0.4 on AMD CAYMAN.
As for the rest of the computer, it's an Intel Core i7 860 on a Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 (Intel P55) motherboard.

inxi -Fxz output:

Problem solved with the proprietary drivers.
