I just purchased a new monitor, but when I open display to try to set the resolution (should be 1600x1200), the highest resolutions I see are 1152x864 and 1360x768; the latter of which isn't even the correct aspect ratio. I am using an nvidia 9600 GT. I have tried both the nvidia driver and xorg.
I did try the instruction here.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/377937/h ... resolution
But I got the error message:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 18 (RRAddOutputMode)
Serial number of failed request: 31
Current serial number in output stream: 32
When I got to step 3.

Re: Setting Resolution
Okay I solved the issue. In case anyone else encounters this problem, I was using a VGA cable, but it went away when I switched to DVI.
