Random crashes

Post by akya »

Since last 2 days, Firefox, Chrome and XBMC are randomly crashing and sometimes even won't start again until a reboot. I checked their logs and found that this was maybe related to graphics driver.

Code: Select all

[Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
Using host libthread_db library "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libthread_db.so.1".
Core was generated by `/usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin'.
Program terminated with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
#0 0x00007f8c71184e10 in ?? () from /usr/lib/nvidia-331/libGL.so.1
I am not sure how to proceed next.

Things have gotten worse.. random crashes plus now software manager won't start at all.. Corrupt system files? If yes then what should I do? I am guessing this isn't related to just graphics drivers. Maybe mods can move the topic to appropriate location?

Have you run Memtest on this computer for many hours to see if the RAM is ok with no errors?

Did you also check the md5sum of the LinuxMint ISO download, and then check the media integrity when booting up the live image?

Lastly, I got a lot of segmentation fault errors with Linux games in LinuxMint 16 and 17 Cinnamon with my then AMD 5770 with prorietary AMD graphics driver. Changing to XFCE was the solution for me. But others reported KDE as also being a solution.
