(SOLVED) boot with laptop lid open gives lower resolution

Post by Shankaraya »

When I boot my Compac Presario CQ40 with the lid closed, it boots in 1280x800, the highest resolution possible.
When i boot with the lid open, the resolution of the laptop monitor is 1024x768 and cannot be changed. And I have a black stripe at the right side of my screen, and a black stripe at the bottom.
What could be the cause and the repair?
I did not find any loose cables or connection inside the box, but that still might be the problem. External monitors work fine on any resolution.
I use mint maya 13, 32bit, Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2

Most likely, you have run into a 'feature' of the laptop connected to an external monitor, that is, the external monitor is set to mirror the exact output of the laptop if the laptop display is active (laptop lid open).
