Screen Resolution problems...

Post by suggsville »

Greetings Folks,

My problem is rather simple i think. I am unable to get a half-decent screen resolution and frame-rate on Mint 8. I have a Fujitsu-Siemens V5535 laptop, which runs a mirage-3 graphics card. The problem is that i am trying to upgrade my Mint 7 partition ( i dual-boot, easier for university), to Mint 8. Except the very same xorg.conf file that gets me by in Mint 7 crashes my Mint 8.

This is what the xorg.conf looks like...

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
HorizSync 30-107
VertRefresh 50-185
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "DontZap" "False"
EndSection

It is not perfect for 7, it wont let me watch videos full-screen, but it does get me by...
What i am looking for help with, is trying to get my screen resolution to either 1024 by 768 or 1280 by 800 which can both be used on my windows partition.

If any-one has any ideas that may help me, that'd be great.

This is just a suggestion, make a backup of xorg.conf and see what happens if you delete it completely. Yeah, sounds strange.. but on numerous times I've deleted the xorg.conf all together and had a better experience with it. Just MAKE SURE YOU BACK IT UP.. In case I'm totally wrong and your problems get worse.
