Hello,
I recently upgraded from Mint 7 to Mint 9. A liveUSB came up right away with no apparent problems. I remember installing Mint 7 was a lot of work / trial and error to get graphics and wifi working. I still had some minor problems, such as GLX Gears image being always on top and occasional random wifi drops. Mint 9 cleared these problems. So I was happy to install.
However, I now have a major graphics problem where everything is running fine then suddenly my screen goes to major blocks of static, the fonts can go to unreadable, the cursor goes to a large block. The system becomes unusable. I can get the problem to happen most easily by opening FireFox, grabbing the vertical scroll bar and moving it. I may get away with no problem for several minutes, but the problem eventually happens.
I've reinstalled several times (both 32bit and 64bit) and can also reproduce from the LiveUSB. I remember from Mint 7 that, with forum help, I think I fixed graphics by tweaking xorg.conf (I can't find the posts though). From searching it looks like I could try some KMS related boot options, but I'm not sure how or what to configure. Also, it looks like I could create or enable an xorg.conf file but I'm not sure how to do this, or if I should.
If anyone could help me I would be most grateful. I'm kind of stuck here; going back to LM7 would mean redoing all the trial and error that I don't have documented (ick).
Here are some specs. Let me know if more info is needed.

Re: ATI Radeon x1200 Graphics Problem - Mint 9
I've managed to install an xorg.conf file and hope to try some tweaking to solve this problem. Any suggestions?
