Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" RC released!

I'm new to linux mint but not to Ubuntu or debian.
Sorry for posting this in wrong place first (in the Release forum).

I have tried to install Mint 12 Lisa RC and all I get is a black screen.

My machine is a HP Pavillion g series. Here is my /proc/cpuinfo : AMD A6-3400M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics AuthenticAMD
The graphic card is an ATI HD6520G (pci id number 9647). It won't work with the opensource driver (radeon).
I actually use the proprietary driver under linux Funtoo and it work for Xorg-server version 10.4-r1 and kernel 3.2.0-rc2.
The 11.10 proprietary driver won't work with Xorg 11 but the new driver 11.11 is supposed to work with recent version of Xorg-server. I have not tried it yet.

Is there a way to boot with the DVD and have a screen ? I have tried to pass "vga=771" at boot with no luck.

I would like to install Mint on a partition to try it for a while. But I'm stuck there with a black screen of death...

Thanks for any info,

Bernard

I have the same problem on a thinkpad ede 525, windows 7 home premium and radeon hd 6480G. It s not only Mint 12, with Kubuntu 11.10, the screen remained black too.

The vga parameters are deprecated, you should try radeon.nomodeset=0 and/or noacpi

Suggestion for troubleshooting :
- when the screen first blanks, can you use the Esc key to toggle to text mode ?

It seems to me that there is a problem with the open graphic driver and the graphic card. There s a workaround for ubuntu 11.10 doing the installation with the alternate cd suggested here https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+question/173548 But as there is no such version for Mint...

I have tried mint, ubuntu, and fedora 16 all with the same result. With fedora i was able to boot with the simple graphics mode but when i got to the desktop it alerts me that Gnome 3 failed to load and is in fallback mode. I have the same AMD Radeon 6480G graphics card...Did you ever find a resolution? Furthermore, would I enter
su
radeon.nomodeset=0 and/or noacpi

in the terminal? Please message me!!
