Mint 16 KDE segmented download?

Postby JonJo on Wed Feb 05, 2014 3:00 pm

Greetings,

Some of us have extremely slow broadband connections (thanks a lot BT).
This makes downloading a 1.5Gb ISO a tedious and problematic affair.

Could someone make Mint 16 KDE available as a segmented download, so I
can fetch it in smaller segments. I can't be the only person with this problem,
so no doubt others would also benefit.

Thanks for reading,

JonJo

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hey jonjo,
if u have a slow connection u can use bittorrent client such as deluge or transmission.
here are the torrent files from mint website:
32 bit KDE : http://torrents.linuxmint.com/torrents/linuxmint-16-kde-dvd-32bit.iso.torrent
64 bit KDE : http://torrents.linuxmint.com/torrents/linuxmint-16-kde-dvd-64bit.iso.torrent

If u dont want to use torrent client then u can use wget from terminal.
wget can continue unfinished downloads. u can always close the download and continue any time

wget [[download mirror address location here]]
example
Code: Select all
wget http://mint-mirror.gwendallebihan.net/isos//stable/16/linuxmint-16-kde-dvd-64bit.iso

Hi,

Thanks for the links, I appreciate you taking the time. A torrent download
is one answer, but I would likely still have to do the download in several
sessions. Having the ISO split into a multipart RAR would be better.

I'm surprised there isn't an official option of this sort. As I said last post, a
lot of us don't have fast broadband connections, and fetching the ISO in one
go is a pain.

That's why there's a torrent. You can download as much as you want, then stop the torrent client and resume the download later. You can also limit the speed in the client if you need.

The chance to go wrong in a multipart iso is 99.99%, because the integration of these parts in an installation would be very complicated.

In windows os you can use a download manager; in Linux you have Kget, wget, etc...
