We are keeping Gnome as our default desktop for the main edition, that doesn't mean we can't have fun releasing KDE Editions now and then :)

Note to the guys who are starting a desktop-war: come on... if you want to troll, IRC is way much better :)

Clem, this was just posted as a bit of fun, not to start a desktop war.

Isn't the best we all can have all the flavours of our own choices? I learned gnome to love with my Debian Etch installation at my former older notebook. I've using fluxbox for my tablet pc. I've been using kde for my every day computer. Now I'am using gnome with my own setup for my new notebook.
So what? please keep as near as possible at ubuntu.

MintPad wrote:I doubt it's a huge concern, but please keep this distribution focused on innovating GNOME! The Mint version of gnome takes the good features of KDE (design, kicker menu) and merges them with GNOME simplicity...but with the hype surrounding the KDE version, I fear that Mint, being such a young distibution, may jump ship at some point and become a KDE-centric distro.

Anyway, it would be a shame, because Mint does GNOME better (by miles) than anyone else.
What is kicker menu?

Please keep GNOME

I am a newbie to Mint and Linux, but a very old software-intensive systems manager and user.
Windows Vista et al appears to be becoming an unaffordable and flawed system, so a free and more reliable Linux distribution could be what the world needs. Like Windows there is little or no Linux configuration control keeping track of what actually is stable and works well, with interface preference wars not helping, but the standard CD version of Cassandra is the best that I have seen, whilst on the other hand the KDE Community version is muddled, just like a lot of the other distributions.

The strength of the CD version is the so far unique hybrid, friendly and immediately useable interface plus a 'locked-in' working configuration.

So, please don't lose that with a purist interface war !

Meanwhile, I will keep tracking Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon as a contender.

No, "Kicker is the main panel used in KDE" (Wikipedia) MintPad wanted to speak about a "mixture" between kicker (and other "good features of KDE") and Gnome simplicity. This "mixture" is there by default.
