How to add a avatar? (Solved)

Postby smokeymtn_ron on Mon Jun 29, 2009 8:09 pm

How do I add a avatar to my posts? When I go to user control panel, all it shows is flags. How can I add my own avatar? Thanks :D

You are supposed to be able to right-click your avatar and Upload it from the drop down menu, but I have been getting cannot connect to the Service for the last week or so, when I first installed mint, the avatar filed (uploaded), but never appeared in my profile
--I think you will see many people with no avatars on these forums, and the ones that have, seem to have used a public web service, like photoshack etc to link to (the other method besides mintupload of sending the file). I did match the max dimensions of 100x100 pixels, other than that, what is required..

If anyone has been able to use Mintupload to upload their avatar to these forums and have it appear, perhaps they can explain how that happened, to enlighten everybody else..
...perhaps explaining exactly which service need to be running for mintupload to work ?
--I usually have javascript turned off, but you need it to upload attachments and use Mintupload (I presume). it was turned on when I got the mintupload error

I decided to use photobucket, and now my avatar can appear
--maybe the mintupload and the free-to-use 2gb hosted service is just NA, even when offered/mentioned in Mint documents (forum, user guides)

Thanks everybody!! I tried Flickr since I was already using it and it didn't work either. Used Photobucket and got my avatar! Guess Photobucket is the way to go. :D

Unfortunately, the Default mintUpload service has been out of action for about a week now, no idea when it'll be fixed, but I've sent an e-mail off, so this is a known issue.

Actually,..most all of my folks originally are from Pickett County, Tennessee,...(as listed in "Pioneer Families of Pickett County, Tennesse,...Tim Huddelton, Historian, 1968).....

Hooray for us HillBillies!!!!! (even though we now live in different areas of the world). Good ol' Linux Mint bringin' 'em together.....(LOOOOL)

I read this thread and realized that there is another easier way to obtain an avatar than registering to some photo website. When you come across a pic that you think would make a good avatar, right click on it and choose properties. If it is the right pix size (<100pix), close that window and right click it again and choose view image. This will bring up a page with only the picture you are interested in. Copy the web address and paste it in the url blank of the mint forum profile avatar page. Voila. By the way....Isn't this a technical question? Just asking.
