I had this problem with Ubuntu Dapper as well. Installed via Alien reformatted RPM files and then tried Install *.sh script mode. Printer still dead any sugestions? - works fine in XP dare I say it.

I cannot see the original post so I am going off the cuff.
To get my mfc to work with the latest drivers I had to point the cups web interface to the ppd file after a reboot.
This is different than the older drivers which placed the ppd file for you.
I am assuming csh is installed.

Excuse me but what is the 'cups web interface'?

OK did some research and found ou about localhost:631. Tried to do it that way but got stuck when it asked for a name and password - what am I supposed to use for that?
