I've gone through the hole lot - this week I have very little time to spare for Mint - and you need to go there daily.
I've discussed a change in login procedure with Clem but I don't know what can be done

I'm thinking of making it impossible for people to update the wiki... and make the top contributors actual admins.

It's not ideal but very efficient.

PS: spam is something I really hate more than anything else, not just the harm it does but the symbol of it and the whole reason why it exists. It nearly makes me hate human nature... really drives me crazy.
