DVD problem--minor

OK, can someone tell me what I did? I was experimenting with different DVD players and basically everthing quit working so I removed all but MPlayer, Totem, and VLC (the ones I had when I started playing). Now, when I put a DVD in, it doesn't show up on my desktop, but it will play. How do I fix it so it shows is has been mounted?
