Hi ubuntu is father of mint.Well within one year mint has changed alot n its improving and getting popularity.Well mint menu is nice project according to me.It help to navigate new users and yes as you said its matter of taste.Dryer gnome?Not getting ya.
Dream linux is its beautiful debian and xfce disto.Very well polished.Mint is young right now but it ll grow like that for sure.Here xfce is community project but overall merlwiz did nice job.If you ll read reviews of mint xfce you ll notice.Thanks buddy
