I tried out this distro yesterday ! It was OK, but no sound unfortunately !!

Meanwhile I've still got my latest Mint install set up with Enlightenment E17 as posted here ...
http://linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7452 ... works good ... lets hope the proper MintE17 works good too !

Mint e17 will not mimic any of Geubuntu's features. Mint e17 will be based on Daryna's base and then developed with e17 on top and so on. e17 is pretty much very stable and usable, I don't believe that we need a panel like what geubuntu has. Geubuntu is in one market and Mint e17 is for the only e17 based distro. There will be gtk apps and so on. Geubuntu is a nice project, but Mint e17 is going to be in the market where elive and gOS are, because I and many haven't found a just e17 distro that fills out many peoples requirements. The developer of the Mint e17 is releasing the beta soon. If you want to check up Mint artwork, you can check here ( http://linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=106&t=7292 ). It will be a very polished distro :). You will be happy with it.

Cheers,

I tried to work with this distro after I read good reviews of it. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing (in spite of all the interesting and impressive features it offers):

1) it was not more responsive and faster than e.g. Mint (a claim made on one of the reviews);
2) I was not able to install emacs and latex with Synaptic. Latex and xterm where simply not on the list of the packages one can install, and emacs refused to install;
3) a kind of message appeared when I tried to play mp3 file with VLC out from my ntfs partition.

So, I have decided to leave it for future times when I will be able to look into it in more detailed way.

BTW, the net installation toom 3GB of space.

Geubuntu is not fully polished, but it was one of the most polished e17 distros out there at the moment I tried it. I think OZOS is starting to be a fairly polished system from the looks of it, but I can't confirm that because I haven't tried it yet. I am sure Mint e17 will be one of the best. Geubuntu must be slow because of the panel it uses and it also seemed a little cluttered, and the themes seemed very cpu consuming. gos and elive are alpha material, don't know why elive is at such a high rank at distrowatch, it doesn't even have an autologin option. elive should have been based on ubuntu, but from the looks of it, the elive developer wants everything to be etk+, which is what I want, when there are proper etk apps, but that isn't the case now.

From the way I see it, the theme structure is a lot like elive (It has a light and dark theme) and the systematic parts are like gos (Its based on ubuntu and so on) I think that combination is a good idea. I believe Maty is doing a great job and I know he will make Mint e17 the best e17 distro there is in the Linux World.

The latest news about this distro is a rename and a new version ... OpenGEU ... http://opengeu.intilinux.com/Home.html !

It seems to work OK .. but I'm not sure about the odd panel at the top ... fbpanel apparently .. http://fbpanel.sourceforge.net/index.html
