Behind Mint

I would like to ask a question regarding Mint. I been using Ubuntu for many years - I would not repeat what everybody already knows. I (and girl friend) need to change distro, but I would not like to be disappointed again, and waste time. Desktops and servers, take time to configure as everybody knows. To the question, who is behind Mint? What will be the path for the future policies with Mint? What I read so far seem to be positive. Can anybody explain to me that question please? I thank you in advance.
