My own distro (of sorts)

To cut a long story short here basically I haven't so much made my own distro' from Mint more added some more, themes, icons & programs then made a few tweaks, remastersys'ed it then added a few docs & user friendly scripts to the DVD.

The idea being so that I can 1/ show off Mint to people (& convert them) by installing it & then thats it (as in no need to then start adding to it or changing it) & 2/ reinstall on my systems without then having to remember what programs I had installed last time.

So far so good, the DVD image is ready & I had planned to start distributing it via a website I've made, only thing is....

1/ I want people to know its a modified version of Mint I'm calling "GreensMint" (so as not to take credit for others great work) is this a problem?
2/ As its covered by the GPL do I have to make the source code available for download too? (or could I refer them to Mints site)
3/ What if someone downloads it where the CODECS could be a problem? (as in not allowed type thing)
4/ Can it even be called a distribution as such or is it just modified Mint?

You might want to read this post and ask questions there. You might also just want to package up the differences and make an install script as opposed to making a full distro disk.

I have read plenty of posts from Clem and I think this guys are awesome and would take this more as a compliment than anything else. These guys here at Linux Mint make the best distro for the desktop hands down imho (I finally got my wife of Mac). My home server runs Linux Mint also on a Mac Pro. As far as the technical details I would contact Clem (or one of the team) directly. I seem to remember a post where he talked about this but I could not find it atm.

After a recent spell of flash & video card problems followed by health & family problems I'm starting to think with the whole distribution thing I may be biting off more then I can chew at the moment. So I'm just going to turn my 'GreensMint' back to what it was when I first got it working - a custom Mint distro' I use & give copys of to people I've switched to Mint just to save time on adding extra software & little tweaks.

I might keep the website running (even though its not finished (or even nearly finished)) if I have the time to keep it running

i do the same...create my own remix and pass it it around so that newcomers feel more comfortable.i love making remixes,but,as youve probably read,that you need to remove all logos and anything doing with mint before distributing.its better to just pass it along to friends instead of posting it on the web.i honestly dont see what the problem is when tweaking a few things here and there with the logos still remaining?they say it'll give mint a bad name.dont see how it will give mint a bad name to windows converts.but it is what it is.and yes make sure it is fully stable before loading it on a friends comp.i usually run hard then re-install,then run hard again just to test it out.keep mdoing what you doing man.

Clem is more concerned with quality, If you are using their tools without changing anything, then it is OK.
