I actually think this is ready for release.

As far as the base system, yes so far I haven't found any bugs in the cinnamon-64 bit yet. But as far as some compatibilities with packages in the main repo, I've already got issues. My first issues is cario-dock just plain refuses to work as a standalone session. I've tried this in Ubuntu 12.04 after bringing in cinnamon and it worked great, but out of the box it doesn't work at all in Mint 13. Second I notice that the repo isn't a direct copy of the ubuntu precise repo. PCSX-R is still the old version, but precise has the newest, but yet I'm thrilled to see the latest XBMC making into the repos finally. And on another personal note I see the user groups GUI has been removed from the admin bar. Guess I gotta add myself to the audio group via terminal.

All in all, I like the look and feel much better now! Cinnamon has come a long way very fast! Going to test out the MATE version too!

Well, I'm not sure but my Mint 13 Cinnamon has pcsxr ver 1.9.92-3build1 available, that is exactly
the same version as the latest for Ubuntu Precise (http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/pcsxr):

And you are correct, I realize now that the version I had gotten when testing Precise came from a PPA I was using that happened to have the SVN build in it, and never realized til now. Thanks for the correction.

It is not a copy indeed - it is the precise repo :D

It's not there because this is the live CD. Press Enter at the first option, wait until the desktop loads, double-click on the install icon on the desktop, that's all :)

There are still some minor glitches remaining in Cinnamon version (tested Maya 64bit RC). Regarding at least my locale choice (french), the current applications menu shows untranslated application group labels e.g accessories, graphics, office, system tools (respectively instead of accessoires, graphique(s), bureautique, outils système). "Computer" and "Home" desktop icon labels are also not translated.

The login screen is partially translated too, still saying "welcome to $HOSTNAME" where it should read "Bienvenue sur $HOSTNAME".

Quite not a life-and-death matter but as I (easily) convinced my 70+ years-old mother to switch from Windows Seven to Linux Mint, it lacks some polishing... ;)

So I have installed Mint in a virtual box, mainly to see how Cinnamon is doing, and it is stuck in the fallback mode. Any diagnostics I can do to determine why it doesn't want to run Cinnamon proper?

Cinnamon needs 3D support in the graphics card. Is your VB install set up to supply it?

really minor issue. when the MATE panel is set to autohide it occasionally sticks open for no reason I can tell. It will be visible for quite a long time then mysteriously hides itself again. installed as a guest in VirtualBox.

I have Cinnamon running as a guest in VB 4.1.14 and have no issue with it running. No fallback.

Ah, thought I had that set up right, but didn't. Thanks for the help!

Now to go poking around! :D

I'm finding the RC stable. I wish I could get cinnamon to work better with the ATI fglrx drivers though. It works well with the gallium drivers, but if I use the gallium drivers my laptop runs very hot and I have no control over brightness. If I use the fglrx drivers, cinnamon does not play well. I installed xfce 4.10 from the xubuntu repo and it is working well and looks good.

I am also having problem wth fglrx driver with cinnamon in my desktop. I also have the following problem too.

I am going to try MATE and see how it works. I really don't care about eye candy. I just need a solid OS that works.

As far as I can tell from previous posts and my own experience, ATI has problems with both Cinnamon and Gnome 3 shell. I'm running the Mint 13 MATE version and the ATI proprietry driver installed perfectly with the Additional Drivers utility.

I'm finding the MATE version to be the best Ubuntu-based Mint I've used yet. None of the slowness or lag the other U-based Mints have had. It feels very much like the LMDE version in response. Everything is working great so far. And being an LTS release is a huge plus. This one's a keeper!

I say so far so good for the Cinnamon RC. It works well on my laptop, installed onto a USB flash drive. I've played music (thanks dev team for not removing Banshee), watched youtube, checked email, installed Chromium, changed both the GTK and Cinnamon themes, changed my background and installed, and setup, xsensors. So far, the only problem I've had is I cannot get xsensors to display Fahrenheit. Yes, my WiFi does work too, as well as Ethernet.

I also had problems with it installed in VirtualBox, but that might be because I have an outdated version of Vbox installed.

So far, so good. I hope we will see a stable release soon.
