Hello everyone, well I'm planning on switching to Mint for good.
The only thing that's causing me problems is my printer, which is Epson Stylus DX4450 All-in-One.
Printer works out of the box, but printing is very slow, i'm pretty sure that more ink is consumed when compared with Windows printing, I can't be completely certain because there's no control panel of any kind for me to see ink levels, or do any kind of maintenance. I was reading and I posted news that Epson is adding more driver support for Ubuntu, but my printer still kinda sucks in Mint, and every other distro. Scanner works, but there's just no way for my printer to work as it should. Am I missing something here, has anyone managed to get this printer to work correctly?

I was thinking about buying a new printer, this time it would be HP Deskjet 2054a, can anyone tell me, if there's nothing that I can do with my Epson, will this HP model work properly without causing me grief, Linux support for HP is good, right?

Last but not least, recently I bought new components and updated my machine to these specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte H61M-S2PV
CPU: Intel G530
Integrated Intel HD graphics I think it's HD2000

Are these components working properly under mint, I mean there's no problem like the CPU being on 100% all the time, or graphics not being supported, right? I searched ubuntu supported component list, couldn't find anything useful....

In General Hp support for printers in Linux is very good right now. However I can not speak to that particular model.
There used to be a list on the internet that listed supported printers you may want to do a search for that.
I have 3 HP officejets here and they all work fine. on one of them if I install the driver from Hp itself it even gives me
the panel with ink levels. That's on the officejet j4580 all in one.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to type out an answer. The website says that the printer is supported, that's good enough for me. I'll take it, and hopefully I'll have less troubles than with my epson.....

I can't give advice for printers, but I'm in the market myself for a mint compatible printer so when you get yours going let me now about it.

On video cards, my advice would be to stick with nvidia. Never had a problem with linux and compiz with nvidia cards, Can't say the same for intel or ati graphics.
Save yourself some trouble...

On cpu/ram linux has worked fine on anything I've tried it on. Same goes for intel network devices.

You also contact the vendor, and see if they know whether the printer you are thinking of buying is Linux compatible. Baring that, make sure you can return it if it doesn't work.

And yes, video cards, stay away from ATI/AMD. I have a mid-range one that is a couple of years old, and although it just works with Mint, I have spent untold hours trying to get it to work in any other distro. Along the way, I seen the widespread anguish ATI cards cause. I am thinking of getting an Nvidia replacement, but then, I can't find any info on which if any of those definitely work, either, on the net at large, or on the Nvidia site, or at places like Newegg.

Thanks everyone for your posts, I finally managed to find some time to write this. Printer arrived and everything works as it should.I have the control panel, printing is fast and i'm very happy. When it comes hardware performance, everything is perfect, even my DVB-S2 satellite card is working out of the box, which was quite a shock for me. Intel graphics are displaying everything without any kind of issues, at least what I've been trying out so far, HD sat channels and videos, and some games, like Assault Cube. I'm using Linux Mint 13 KDE by the way. It's good enough for me, Windows is gone, and for the foreseeable future, I'm only using Linux, pardon me, GNU/Linux . Cheers....

Interestingly, I run an ATI Radeon 6850 and haven't had the least issue with it running Cinnamon or with any other distro I've tested. It's sitting in an ASUS board with an AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition CPU.

I'm dual booting with Win 7 at the moment and have all but made the complete switch to Linux MInt 13 Cinnamon. I installed Win XP in Virtualbox basically so I can watch Netflix movies and I've just installed and tested Quicken with PlayOnLinux/Wine. Quicken is running just fine in Mint and I haven't missed a beat. The difficulty in the past of using Quicken is what kept me from making the switch.

I'm not sure what I'll use the Win 7 side for any more, except for maybe the odd game or two. Mint is so much faster and more responsive. This machine will never see Win 8, that's for sure; there's no point.
