What features can we expect in Mint 15?

Is there a roadmap? Any info?

Personally, I wish to keep mint 14 and upgrade to Cinnamon 1.8 because mint 14 has been very stable for me. But excited to know about the next version of Mint.

I wonder WHEN they will have it optimized for SSD drives.

Such as having discard preinstalled, ramdrives with temp files pointed to them, etc. Scheduler set to deadline.

It ia a pain to have to look up the settings each time and manually put them in.

The mint devs have a lot of work to do and they do it all in their own time. If saving you the bother of performing a copy/paste out of the notes you've kept is worth so much to you then I'm sure the mint devs would drop everything and implement your needs if you were to offer them an obscene amount of money.

Since the future of hard drives is here, why not set the parameters for SSD's? Those parmeters should work for normal hard drives as well. But the converse doesn't.

About my notes - I have to look everything up on the internet each time. I am unable to carry around a new york phonebook sized notepad?

EFI/UEFI and ssd's are here to stay. Why not start now adjusting things.

This late in the release cycle for Linux Mint 15 I don't think you can expect such a major change to be implemented. It sounds like quite an overhaul of the installer; handling this both for automatic and manual partitioning. You may understand such a feature requires development time and test time, not something that is likely possible to do without impacting the release date target.

If you don't want to donate the "obscene amount of money" that catweazel suggests, then how else will you help implement this change? But discuss that on your idea, and let's stick to being on topic here--answering what will be in the upcoming Mint 15

I wonder if they could do an upgrade release? I read that Mint 14 went to Mint 14.1.

Note: adding discard to fstab shouldn't cause problems, should it? Just wondering.

Anyway, I was looking for a complete list of what is new coming out. All I saw was 3 things that don't seem to fit what I am looking for. Using Mint 13 right now. And every time I get an update/upgrade, it gets slower and slower. Will Mint 15 have this problem too?

14.1 was a patch release for Linux Mint 14 MATE and Cinnamon, for some issue found just after release. The patches were already included in the later released Linux Mint 14 Xfce and KDE. http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2234

discard is not the right way to implement trim on SSDs. You should use the fstrim command from cron. See link at top in this comment: viewtopic.php?f=90&t=79503#p461796. Not sure what it does if called for non-SSD hard disks (I don't have any).

Yes samriggs is churning out themes for that, for example this animated one that cought my eye: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=126979&start=20#p698198. More in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=126979. He also has some help for aspiring theme artists: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=128396. It's gonna be good

The roadmap (https://github.com/linuxmint/Roadmap) now lists remaining issues and tasks that need to be worked on. Some things from Orbmiser's earlier comment (posting.php?mode=quote&f=60&p=712048#pr698503) have been pushed back to Cinnamon 2.0. From the developers' meeting earlier this week, they are focusing now on fixing issues in the push to release Cinnamon 1.8.

Cinnamon now also works with Gnome 3.8. Not that important for Linux Mint 15 (will have Gnome 3.6 mainly), but means that for example this is no longer an issue for Arch and Fedora.

Let me check my wallet...hmmm... empty. Maybe because the government here let the economy go down hill and no one has any now?

The point I was trying to make is that they are still developing linux for use on old technology. Let puppy linux do that.

It won't be long before developers will have to do my suggestions or they won't be developing for very long.
