I started using Mint with 10. That's before Mate or Cinnamon. Actually, I was running Gnome2. Then the Gnome team decided to concentrate on other paths. That meant Mint had a choice. Stick with the rapidly aging- yet, close relationship of- Gnome2, or rely on something else. The Mint team understandably chose something else. Regrettably, that 'something-else' led to yet another split. A seemingly needless split.
I have yet to understand why there is a Mint xfce, lmde, kde, mate, cinnamon, and (not supported)gnome2/3.(well, gnome2 may be supported under some older releases, but I haven't looked it up.)
It seems to me that all the things that I can do in one, should be available to all.
Do I like the 'light' version? Yes.
1)Can I have the light version with kde style workspace management? With compositing, HW acceleration, true transperency?
2)Can I change the behavior of the desktop action of 'right-click'? Instead of a context menu, how about a system/app menu?(Always hated functional toolbars.
They seemed better suited for info purposes only.)
These are just a few ideas to get the wheels greased up.
