Is there some kind of a Linux Mint tutorial/howto/tips page or just the tips and tricks section of the forums?

Cuz if there isn't I was thinking that it might be a good idea to make some kind of a summary of dozens and dozens of various how-tos that I had to go through in the past 7 months since I've installed linux for the very first time...

There is a wiki but there isn't much there yet.

Good suggestion about pooling them all together though.

I just did a bit of checking in the howto section and Clem is going to eventually put the info from there into a wiki.

I'm assuming after he gets the Bianca KDE and XFCE versions done.

My dad is from Ponikvari and my mom is from Velika Vranovina.

There is a native language forum here for non-English speakers.

I figured since I'm on here quite a bit and the other languages were popping up, I might as well get Clem to start one for our language.

Didn't want to offend anyone so we changed the name of the forum to reflect the languages that are similar (same) enough that it could be of use to all.

yeah

but I guess that subforum is just for fun... for any computer related work I use strictly english... I once accidentally installed ubuntu with croatian language (thought I was setting the keyboard) and it was so damn funny that I immediatelly reformated and reinstalled :lol:

My issue is that I am not sure of a lot of the words for actual technical things but I'll figure them out as we go along.

thats most likely because there are none... it's outdated

most of the modern technological terms used in regular croatian daily are english...

but sometimes people like to be smart and translate everything... most often literally and it's hillarious - i.e. the ubuntu croatian

Same here ... Out of fun I once clicked on "Bosnian" and it was confusing like hell. "Datoteka?!... jebote sta je to????"

The funniest is this I think:

In Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian to burn a CD/DVD means "to cut one": "Izrezati disk ... "

So I once had a phone conversation with one guy and we were talking about backups, so I suggested to him that he should use his double-layer DVD writer because such a double-layer disk could store up to 8.5 GB and that it's possibly the cheapest "backup solution" he could afford ...

"Aha, znaci da izrezem diskove ... " Litterally it means: "Aha, so you want me to cut those disks (e.g. to little pieces ...)"

Of course I suggested that he should "burn" them, not "cut" them ...

Talk about misunderstandings ... :lol:

it was hillarious when I learned about it from a colleague from Belgrade... there was no end making fun of her :twisted:
