I have installed Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon RC and Mamma mia   What a release  It's faster than I ever expected! Everything works out of the box( well exept the MDM Mint-X theme on live session)! I love the system sounds! they are the best part of the release "the jingle bells effect"  . I used to install ubuntu tweak to get them working and had to suffer from that ugly Ubuntu wheel which they call "logo" and which sucks as hell cause I had nightmares with that OS when unity was out! Petra is my dream OS coming true! Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany thanks guys! but please bring back samriggs MDM themes! They are the best :D :D

Absolutely have to agree. I've only played with the live disc but blimey is it quick. It's so fast and pretty, I have to have it. I can't wait for the final, so I'll install this and keep it updated.

Well done to the team on what must be shaping up to be the best Mint there has ever been. :)

My themes can be downloaded at http://samriggs.deviantart.com/gallery/
just extract the zip and re-compress the folder as a tar.gz drag it into the html theme window and it will install it.
deviantart would not allow me to use tar.gz so I had to use zip instead.
Enjoy

Just to let everyone know I updated the following
BlackNBlue, Blimp City (steampunk blimp city), CurcuitBoard, Galaxy, MetalMint, SpaceRace
themes to work with mdm 1.3.2 and have not been tested in mdm 1.4 as of yet.
The other themes still need updating (trying to find time as the theme list keeps growing) but might work, not sure.
Please let me know if there is any issues in mint 16.
Thanks
Sam

I tried Mint years ago, and joined this forum about the same time. Frankly, I didn't care for it, and haven't been around here much since. On a lark this afternoon, I downloaded and installed the Linux Mint 16 RC (Cinnamon), and I must admit, that I'm beyond impressed. Congrats to all involved in the dev cycle, good job!

Well guys, like everyone else Im very excited too but how about the memory usage with Cinnamon 2.0x? From the previews versions we all know how many complains the users had (I was one too). How about it now? Depending on this I will install Cinnamon or Mate.

Well I've had it installed since release day now and it has been nothing short of stellar. Really fantastic release. The only issues I've spotted myself have been with older Cinnamon themes and applets and whatnot. One or two of them, particularly when you try to manipulate them on the desktop (Desklets for example), have frozen the desktop up. However, since removing the troublesome ones it's been solid.

And really pretty too!

This release is indeed awesome. I skipped 15, but compared to 14 this one boots crazy fast!

Some updates have come down the pipe today. I imagine then that we can't be too far off the final release. :) Haven't had any freezes recently, so maybe one or two of those updates have fixed that issue. I saw Clem comment on it on the blog, so it's obviously a problem the team have been aware of.

I'm a bit like the poster above, who didn't get the point of Mint many years ago. Now though it's very different, and the whole Mint approach makes so much sense. I wiped out Windows with this release because it's so good. I think the time was right for me to do that too. I'd had W7 installed for some years now (since release in fact) but I never use it. I'm not a zealot, I just gravitate to things I enjoy using. I enjoy Mint very much indeed, so it was a no-brainer.

Looking forward to the final release, not so much for me but for the wider audience who are waiting. I think they'll really love this one. :)

I had my first kernel panic after only a day of uptime. Is someone clever enough to figure out where I should go to mention this?

My usage of the laptop in which I tested Petra RC was minimal. But even then I could feel the improvements! :) I will certainly install Petra once it comes out.

For those that have the RC installed, do this to upgrade to final release: How to upgrade from RC to Stable (MATE/Cinnamon editions)

Woot!

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm really glad it's good (although not surprised - the Mint devs are great!)

Thanks, guys!

It is the best Linux release I have ever tried? You get sounds events and all the jingle bells effects :P :P

I'm trying the Cinnamon edition off of a live USB now :)

Even on this old laptop it's pretty snappy and very pretty. The menus and configuration seem considerably better laid out, which is a HUGE plus for me as I felt in the past they looked a bit scattered on Cinnamon (settings in unusual places, etc).

It's looking more polished and mature as a desktop, and is very pleasant to use. The Software Manager also looks nice. It worked perfectly with all my hardware too - better than Windows with the official drivers, actually.

Not many criticisms. I've noticed it's not quite as crisp as on Windows for some reason, I don't know why. Maybe graphics drivers? I dunno. I'll look into that.

Oh, and it would be just lovely if the wallpapers had a few more capabilities like fading when changing, or rotating through different ones or whatever, a bit like Windows 7 does.

Anyway erm, overall it's sleek, polished and very nice to use. Hits the nail on the head very nicely for both professional and casual users I think, whilst having just enough eye-candy and character to keep it interesting!

Well done!

Mint 16, it's perfect, I dumped Windows 7 and installed it. There is a few small problems but its good enough to dump win7. Well done.
