Just wiped a dual boot, Linux is now the only OS.

Yup, you heard right. I just wiped my dual boot of windows 7 and Linux Mint 15 cinnamon and replaced it with Linux Mint 15 XFCE as the only OS! :D I put it on my aging desktop, and it runs like new again! This is a big achievement for me. I now feel comfortable with Linux. I can now use it flawlessly for programming and web browsing and doing other work. The best part is, I am LOVING the change. Linux has served me well, and I hope to spread the joy of using Linux to my Aunt/Uncle, if that is their choice.

The only somewhat-severe problem was a graphical glitch during bootup, where my PC wouldn't boot! I fixed that by replacing an AMD Radeon HD 6570 with an Nvidia GeForce 7600 video card. I now have no glitches, and everything works flawlessly.

Same here. I was triple booting Vista/Cinn/KDE (Mint 15's) and decided to wipe it all before 15 went out of service to Mint 16 for a bit, then hop on the Mint 17 LTS when it shows up. I ended up with Cinnamon and very happy with it.

I also have a PC that only runs Mint: an aging netbook that I put Mint KDE on because the system requirements were too low to run any version of Windows. So far, so good. I've been a fan of KDE's philosophy, as well as Mint's hardware compatibility, so running Mint KDE just made perfect sense.

Glad to see you're enjoying your new old hardware. Linux is great for repurposing old machines, isn't it?

It can be a bit scary leaving the Windows world, but, ahhh...freedom :-)

Yup, I agree, freedom is great. I will definately be digging into some OS code, once I become really good with python. Then I will understand things (and I already do understand certain things) that my computer shop "experts" don't understand. :D
