How Long will a Pentium 4 be able to run Linux Mint?(Solved)

Postby panorain on Wed Apr 02, 2014 8:31 pm

I have a couple older computers here and a question came to mind about Linux Mint support. I am running Linux Mint Maya on a Pentium4 with a 2800 MHZ cpu speed HT. How long will I possibly be able to use this computer with the full features such as, adobe flash, firefox, mainly as I recieve now with Maya?

Apologize if the question is dumb.

Thanks,

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Your Pentium 4 with Maya and Cinnamon will receive updates until 2017. It will continue to function beyond that date but without security updates that may turn out to be risky.
If your hardware is capable of running the next LTS (long term support) release - Linux Mint 17 - then your old machine will still function until that support ends.
The question really should be whether or not you can tolerate the quality of computing experience you will have with old technology.

If you use a lightweight desktop like LXDE or Xfce you'll get a lot more out of older hardware.
