What Role Does Metacity Play in Mint?
I have finished reading numerous resources on Linux and am now feeling like an expert on the topic (I know I'm not though) and I had a question about window managers. I do not really understand what the role of Metacity is in Mint. I don't really understand why it's necassary. I do understand how X11, mdm, and then your DE all work together, but not where metacity comes into play.

Re: What Role Does Metacity Play in Mint?
A window manager manages windows display, size, decoration, movement, pointer interactivity and so on.
Metacity is the legacy GTK Gnome window manager. In Gnome 3, it is replaced with "Mutter"; in Cinnamon with "Muffin" and in MATE (Gnome 2 revival) with "Marco"... notice they all are named "M__"
