It is in the Hardy universe repo. I think it is disabled by default. Check /etc/apt/sources.list to make sure. I'm on Opensuse right now or I would tell you for sure.

my favorite way to install wine in mint is to search for wine in mintInstall and to install wine-doors. this gives you options to install a variety of windows apps. to install stuff that is not on the wine-doors list, i use the wine file browser to navigate to the folder and to run the windows installer by simply double clicking. so far it has worked as well as wine allows.
