Hello cychem1,
I am a Mint newcomer as well but I am not new to Linux in general. One thing I can tell you is that one area a lot of Linux distro's need help is with documentation. Very few have excellent documentation (Arch and Gentoo are the only ones that come to mind). I am sure writing a how to or adding to the Wiki would be a great contribution.
