To produce my YouTube Videos of Desktops I installed the following packages using Synaptic
You should see recordMyDesktop in MAIN MENU / Sound & Video.
Click it to launch it. You should see a menu, on your screen, and a bright red ball in your task bar.
Click the red ball, and you are recording. The icon will then change to a little square. Click that to to stop. You will be told not to do anything, then asked to name your video.
Your video will be in your /Home directory, but in a non-YouTube friendly format e.g. .ogg/Vorbis.
To convert it to an .avi, which YouTube likes, run this in Terminal.
mencoder -o output_file.avi -ovc lavc -lavcopts vbitrate=5000:vhq -ffourcc DX50 -oac pcm -srate 48000 -ofps 25 your_movie.mov
I assume your Vid is in your Home file. Then where it says "your_movie.mov", change it to /home/whatever/your movie name. Click, and your vid gets converted to an .avi file. It might take a minute or two. The .avi should land in your Home file.
Then post to YouTube, and shout about Linux Mint. I do!
