Has anyone noticed that Celena Mint is faster than Ubuntu Feisty or is it just me?

They're about the same. And both can be 'tuned' if you do it right.

Mint was initially based on Edgy and the codebase was altered progressively with every release especially since Bea. For instance Mint doesn't come with support for ipv6, and that makes networking faster on some ipv4 networks. The differences are small and the overall speed should be quite similar from the two distributions though. Mint also runs things at startup that Ubuntu doesn't (915resolution, mintdisk, mintdesktop) and that could potentially slow down Mint in comparison...

... it's hard to say because although the two system bases were identical between Edgy and Barbara, a lot of things were tweaked with each release, things got removed, other things added, and in the end you're looking at two different systems. If one is faster than the other then so be it but no efforts were actually put in making Mint faster than Ubuntu (well apart from the ipv6 tweak of course).
