Backup solution for Lunix Mint

Having spent some time getting my system set up with the installed applications and some additional ones (and it works great), I would like to back the whole thing up in case of a disaster.

This is to prevent me having to install from scratch again and re-install applications, my email addresses, Internet favourites etc. again etc..

Would appreciate advice on the best way of doing this with Linux Mint.
