What audio player you prefer as default for Mint 5.0 (Poll)

I don't want amaroK as default for Mint (Gnome) 5.0. Its ugly, slow, big (because of KDE libs) and not as user friendly as the itunes interface in my opinion. I would want songbird (first preference, a stable version will be out by Mint 5.0 anyway) and if not songbird, I would want either Banshee, Exaile or Rhythmbox. I will like to hear what you want. Don't know why Mint doesn't use exaile instead of amaroK because its very similar to amarok, and its gtk based so space can be saved to have things like burning utilities and so on in Mint 5.0.

Here is some info to make a better decision if seeking more info. The wiki's are just a general explanation on whats its aim and interface is and so on.

amaroK - http://amarok.kde.org/
amaroK wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AmaroK

Songbird - http://www.songbirdnest.com
Songbird wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songbird_(software).html

Exaile - http://www.exaile.org/
Exaile wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exaile

Banshee - http://banshee-project.org/Main_Page
Banshee wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banshee_(music_player)

Rhythmbox - http://www.gnome.org/projects/rhythmbox/

VOTE!!! :)

Exaile is one that I haven't tried yet. But I don't see whats the point of amaroK on gnome. Exaile is for gnome and amaroK is for KDE. Then again, its only my opinion.

personly, i like songbird, it has an integrated web browser and online content feed bookmark system so you can easily access all the online content that you use the most, (for example i have dl.tv, tech junkies, and a few others set in mine) and all you have to click on the feed link and view or listen to the content.

Tried Songbird but found the layout very busy & cluttered. I prefer a clean layout so I can see what is of interest to me, not everything for everybody.

I have tried all the audio players in the poll, but my vote would go to Listen Music Player. It is the the audio player that suits my needs best.

These are very interesting results. Everything is very spread out. Seems like Amarok is beating the others, but I wonder if they are KDE users that are voting for amaroK and not gnome users.

Not me! ;-)
I prefer KDE and I use it in my other distro in dual boot with Mint but even in KDE I don't use amaroK (it is not even installed) For my music I use JuK, Kaffeine takes care of the rest :-)

For a Gnome distro I vote for Exaile (or maybe Rhythmbox ... why not?)

Banshee!
With all the new plug ins it's really the best choice for the Gnome environment!

Excuse me, just a reminder about Banshee. (I know this is a crusade )

Simply read the following post: Banshee

Now if you want Mr Bill in your Linux box, then OK, go for Banshee...

But not me. :-)

I use amarok in Gnome and like it but,
it would make more sense I guess to include a Gnome app as default.

looks like exaile is winning. :D

I'd be cool with that!

I don't really care which one is default....
I'll just install the one I want anyway

Yes BMPx is very good but Audacious is also excellent, maybe even better...? :-D

In a way I have to wonder if it really matters exactly what we might wanna replace Amarok with (at this stage). All the apps mentioned are good applications. What is important is there definitely seems to be a community up rising against having Amarok, and that is the important bit I think. A few months back it seemed like people were pleased to have Amarok by default where as now I dont get that feeling.

For the record though I voted Exaile.

Although I've got high hopes for Songbird in the future, at the moment its too new. Plus I don't know if the fact it has a really slick look of its own rather than a gnome look is a good thing or not. Isn't a consistent look important?

Also nobody talked about Quod Libet... I'm surprised! In my opinion I think Rhythmbox is already perfect for the newbies. And QuodLibet with all it's tagging goodness, it's "album view" media library is the best gnome app for heavy use. (don't even talk about Muine, it's upstream dead)

My god! Exaile went over the roof overnight. Who are the people that picked other? Can they please tell me what they use, I always like to hear about apps that I haven't heard of.

But people obviously like Amarok or it wouldn't be the current default, and Exaile is in many respects a Gnome copy of Amarok.

Yes, exaile is a copy, since its gtk it wouldn't be a big deal if Exaile replaces amaroK. We can save plenty of space because there won't be a use for KDE libs and Brasero or something can be installed by default for Mint to use the free space in the CD edition.

I agree, even if I would prefer Rhythmbox! ;-)

One thing at the back of mind though is what about Amarok 2? That will be out by the time Mint 5 is ready to go. Shouldn't we wait until that is out before we decide we don't want Amarok anymore?
