Another positive report...

Go to http://www.dwasifar.com/?p=1982 to see another positive report about our favourite distro and this by a guy who used to have doubts about it!

Good article. I agree with him that Clem nailed the problem by describing the desktops as task-centric or application-centric. I'm a task-centric guy, so definitely on board with where Clem is taking Mint.

There's another important dichotomy not touched upon in the article, the one between working mainly from your keyboard with shortcuts and mainly with your mouse clicking on icons and tabs and browsing menus. As a keyboard person, all the complaints that gnome shell (or Unity for that matter) isn't "usable" or" doesn't allow a workflow" don't resonate at all, they're perfectly usable to me, and I don't feel particularly application-centric. ALT+TAB to move between windows and applications does away with the need for minimized window tabs, super+first 2-3 letters of application name to launch them does away with the need for e.g. favourites icons in the top panel and application menus for launching.
Thank you for this thread. That’s all I can say. You most definitely have made this forum into something special. You clearly know what you are doing, you’ve covered so many bases. Thanks!

As a keyboard person, which do you find more usable: gnome shell or terminal? I'm just curious.

And another positive impression of Linux Mint 12:

"In short, you get all of the good technology that underpins GNOME 3 without being stuck in the awful desktop choices of the GNOME developers. The Linux Mint developers have essentially done the unthinkable. They’ve made GNOME 3 enjoyable to use."

Very nice. I expect we will see many great reviews when 12 is officially released.
