I have just upgraded from 10 to 12RC (and initially thought I was liking the Gnome 3 +MGSE, but it seemed buggy. I tried MATE which I thought would be a rough around the edge disaster, but it is stable and essentially mimics what I came from. I kept returning to Gnome 3 and finally decided that the MGSE felt like pasted on after thoughts for those of us that felt more comfortable in Gnome 2.x. I shut down all the MGSE extensions and felt like I could learn to like Gnome 3, but it is still so buggy. The rollovers light up and activate about half the time. I have to click on other things to sort of reset and then try what I was actually trying to click again. Sometimes successfully and sometimes not. I will give 3.0 another try when this goes final, but for now I will hide in the more stable MATE environment. Is 12 a disaster...I tried Fedora 16. It made the decision to stay here easy.

We must also keep in mind that hardware is an issue here as well some times. What might take seven installs to be successful for one person, may work fine the first time for someone else.

update...
got the stable release installed just now.im liking it a lot.it doesnt seem to buggy yet.i like the fact that it updates the firefox7 to 8.now i dont have to manually install it.it looks a bit more cleaned up.its nice.looks like they covered some issues with it. its running perfectly so far.
i also tried fedora 16 and the opensuse12.1.id have to say i like opensuse better but i was totally lost as to where i get stuff like my drivers from.fedora is alright but id say opensuse is nicer

Hi everyone.
I have tried Mint 12, but eventually I preferred to revert to version 10 that to me was very good and easy to use. Whats the point to make changes if the latter makes no improvement in usability ? New gadget does at the end increase our joy?

Ubuntu has switched to a user interface based on Gnome 3, so Mint would become incompatible with Ubuntu if it used Gnome 2. This is one of the reasons that Mint had to switch to another desktop. Gnome 2 conflicts with Gnome 3, but Mint 12's desktop does not conflict with Ubuntu's Gnome 3-based Unity.

Mate (which you can select with the gear on the login screen) is an attempt to preserve good old Gnome 2.

i was mislead when i first tried mate on the mint12rc.it seemed like an xfce interface.now its fully usable and updated i went into it last night and man oh man did that really feel like home.its nice.still only using the gnome 3 i find it easier and quicker for launching apps.
