Mint Net Install? [Idea]

Why not make a net install cd that allows you to choose which version of Mint you want to install?

That way it makes it more convenient for people that only have cd-roms, and those of us wanting to make customized installs?

I've always used a Debian net install for this, but why not bring it to mint? Ubuntu has it, why shouldn't we?

Yes! Now... all we need is Mr.Clem over here.

(Clem should write a script that searches for his name all over the forum, that way we can summon him.)

If someone were to slap a beard and pointy hat on that, yeah, he could be a wizard.

Or... just give him a penguin t-shirt.

It's already been suggested and rejected before.
Which I think is a shame.

Clem is probably a very busy guy, the last thing he needs is a summoning alert going off constantly, just sayin. =/ I would rather he continue making magic with this distro than be bogged down.

I think that it would be a great idea so how about starting a pole on Net Install.

Agree here too, a minimalist CD with only the base is really a good idea and one of my requirements.
I received in some place peoples that do not use Mint because too heavy.

My parents have an old Compaq machine that didn't have a DVD-drive. Before I could install Mint xfce on their PC (to replace Windows XP), I had to remove a DVD-drive from my old PC and install that into their computer (both PC's are IDE, not SATA, so buying a SATA drive was no option, nor was installing a SATA-card).

A netinstall would have made this unneccessary.

Have you tried unetbootin? Their old PC must have a USB port, umm, scratch that, even if it does, there probably isn't boot from USB capability. But you are right, the Debian net install fits on a CD (max 280MB), and it could be read by their legacy CDrom (if you use and burn the CD ISO to a CD of course). There are other user friendly distros that have net installs, I can't name them off the top of my head at the moment but there are. I am running Debain Wheezy 7.4 Xfce, I found a way to make it pretty and have learned to configure it, solid as a rock, but you need some extra packages and a bit of configuration for a few of the frills you find in Mint. Xfce is closest to Windows, KDE will be too bloated, you'll see them in the menu.

The way to summon Clem is with the image of a penguin projected into the night sky by a searchlight.
