Believe it or not Microsoft have got their finger out and released a new version of Skype!!

I haven't tried it yet, but this is really exciting. Skype was one of my two major complaints about software on linux (the other being iTunes). While linux did have skype, it was horrible compared to the windows version.

I wouldn't jump to update just yet given Microsoft's announcement they are going to serve ads in the client on audio calls. Perhaps this jump in linux version is just to enable that capability?

They will only be serving up ads if you have no credit!! I have it installed and it's a great improvement over the previous pile of crap!!

I just wanted people who use the main and the KDE edition to know that Skype has been updated, it's a big deal as it shows that MS are continuing to support Skype for Linux!!
