That's great, thanks...and coming up with the solution makes my work a lot easier!
As you might have guessed, I removed memtest, which obviously removed syslinux-themes-debian as well.
I'll be putting them back in the next version.

I feel stupid I didn't think of a dist-upgrade while testing and should have made a testing scenario before starting to test. I suppose I was a bit to eager to get this public...Well, next time better.

@adelante
Thanks for seeding!
You can always try the Live version and not install it, or you might try it out in VirtualBox.
Really all feedback is appreciated.

Schoelje,
some more testing :mrgreen:
the system is (overall) running great and i'm spending quiet a few time here 8)

- installed the nvidia drivers without a problem;

- today i found 2 new issues (sorry, you asked for feedback :oops: )
1- kde-gtk-config doesn't work anymore after the upgrade (so we have that *amazing* FF and synaptic look; i solved it compiling the latest kde-gtk-config (easily thanks to BP http://nancib.wordpress.com/2012/06/04/ ... -settings/ )
2- this one is weird: start amarok, goto its settings and change something, the plasma theme changes from air to oxygen :shock: (honestly can't find the connection but i found a couple hits (no more) on google about this)

Glad to provide a reason to thank something known as BP. Especially after the problems they caused in the Gulf of Mexico a couple of years ago. But you can just call me Peng if it's easier. That's how I introduce myself here, and I went with BostonPeng because when I set up an account somewhere someone in Pittsburgh had already taken Peng. Silly hockey fans. :)

@zerozero
Issue #2 I had even in testing!
Just opening Amarok and everything went dark...why, you ask yourself...
But opening it the second time, no problem at all.
I need to investigate that further.
If you can send me the url's you already found, I'll have somewhere to start.

Thanks zerozero,
This old bug seems to have been re-introduced in the latest version.
I've just posted this on bugs.kde.org to reopen the old bug.

I'm going to experiment with making symlinks to the Air theme in these directories:
/usr/share/kde4/apps/desktoptheme/
/etc/skel/.kde/share/apps/desktoptheme

Any other ideas are very welcome.

[Edit]
Symlinks are not the answer...
But copying my plasmarc to /etc/skel/.kde/share/config does!
Each new user does not have a problem with Amarok changing the desktop theme.

Thanks for the direct download. It took me so long to start snagging it I must have missed the seeders. Once I get it downloaded I'll see about seeing it for a bit while I'm online.

Just a note about the torrent though. One of the trackers is showing up in Ktorrent as simply http://announce. Not sure what you intended to have there but I wanted to let you know about it.

Thanks. I already have the ISO but I'll snag your new torrent tomorrow and use it to help seed for a bit.

I just uploaded the final version of the unofficial LMDE KDE.
You can find the download links at the start of this thread: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 6&p=600176
and let me know what you think.

Great news! I just redid my flash drive but before I fire it up I'll snag the final and give that a try. Congrats on going final!

OK Schoelje, I got the torrent and downloaded the .iso file. After installing, setting it up and running it for a while, I have to congratulate you on a very nice job. Everything without exception works excellently.

Once I do a Clonezilla backup of my installation, I'll install the ATI proprietary driver and point the repositories to Testing and see what happens. If it breaks my system (which could happen with the ATI driver), I can reinstall the cloned copy and settle for using the open-source driver.

Either way, your KDE spin of LMDE will stay.

Again, nice work.

I found out that the direct download iso's were corrupted and because my upload speed is abominable, it's going to take another 8 hours (!!!) until I can test them again (and having the risk to fail again).

Torrent download is slow but does not have this problem.

When (or better: if) the direct downloads are available again I'll post it on this thread.

Why the ISO become this big? I mean, the official Maya KDE RC sized ~900, the 201204-mate-cinnamon (2 DE) ~1.2G, and debian testing KDE (09-Jul-2012) is only 644..

I think, the smaller the ISO, the better, at least we don't need to do a big post-install upgrade right? Downloading upgrade like 100-300Mb after download the big ISO is too much for people like me (I'm using an EVDO modem @20-50KBps). I don't know about this ISO (not finished download right now), but it happen on previous Mint ISO..

also, smaller ISO means faster download time right?

the lmde iso's were always bigger than the "equivalent" ubuntu-based: they vary between 875M (201009 32bit) and 1.2G (not only in the mate-cinnamon but also for example the 201109 32bit)
http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/debian/
http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/stable/debian/

now,
- kde is a bigger DE (you see that easily when you install it over other);
- this unofficial respin has a few added pkgs (all together i believe that they won't add much, but anyway)
- FF and TB are updated to v.12 (so you have UP4+all the updates since then > in the amount of 2)

Just fired up Ktorrent for day three of downloading the iso. I'm at just under 25% and part of the lag is on my part since the wifi here at Starbucks isn't the best plus I have to pause it at several points during the day to get other downloads done. The good news is that I'm also seeding what I have to make it a little easier on Schoelje's system. I can't wait to put it on my thumb drive and give it a try! I know it's an older KDE since I'm on 4.8.4 thanks to LMDE/Debian testing repos (I was going to ask how he got inline renaming fixed in Dolphin until I remembered he's using 4.7) but I'm looking forward to seeing what the out-of-the-box experience is.

@zerozero:
I'm curious to hear which KDE is better IYO.
