I downloaded and installed Ubuntu Hardy on April 25th. I wasn't expecting much of a difference from Gutsy, but I must say that I am underwhelmed even given my modest expectations. I don't know if it is a problem with Cannonical's servers being overwhelmed, but when I attempt to install updates or programs from the terminal, many times it takes a ridiculous time to complete or I get an error message. Same thing with the Synaptic Package Manager, horrible lag times and install errors are common for me. I am not sure if other people are experiencing this, but it has certainly been frustrating nonetheless.
I have also had problems with the desktop coming out of screensaver mode. I have had to do a hard shut down more than once now. I never had this problem with either Gutsy or Daryna. I have also had some problems with deb file package downloads from get deb, most are not written for Hardy yet (which is probably to be expected given that it has only been out a few days).
I am still very much a noob and have a lot to learn about linux, but I must say that I have been impressed with Mint from day one and can't wait until Elyssa comes out so I can take out Hardy and replace it with Elyssa. I have no doubt that it will meet or exceed my expectations! Besides, what other distro provides a software portal, mint install, and all the other little extras that Mint does? After my most recent experience with Hardy (not that it's a bad distro or that developers have not provided the public with an excellent OS- I have to give praise to Ubuntu for putting out a good product) I am very much anticipating Elyssa's stable release.
Thanks to all of you who help us noobs out and who develop such great alternatives to Windows. Mint rocks!
