Package/Software Manager?

Hey all, new to the forums and fairly new to linux.

I just put Commodore Vision OS on my computer (a version of mint) and have been messing around with it for a bit. It comes with software manager, but it's not working correctly. I can open it and go all the way to an app that I want and hit install, after that a security box will open asking for a password, then it will just sit there. It doesn't install the app or anything.

I've read that that's because Software Manager doesn't work with 64-bit computers, so I'm not sure about that. So they said to use Package Manager, but I can't seem to download that. I've tried sudo apt-get install packagemanager but it says it's unable to find it.

So, how would I go about getting Package Manager? I know you can download all of the stuff through terminal but sometimes it can't find something that I want that I can see in Software Manager.

Moved to other distros forum. Commodore OS is not "a version of mint", it is a Linux distribution loosely based on Debian and on Linux Mint. It is using very old and in some cases long obsolete software. Perhaps somebody here can help, but I'd recommend you get support from Commodore (or its user forum, if it has one) as it will know the specifics better of the old software included on Commodore OS and known issues with that. You could of course also install Linux Mint instead

Have you tried their forums? If Commodore OS uses GNOME 2, it's diverged widely from Mint.

That can't be correct. Maybe you mean it won't manage C=64 (ca. 1982) programs in the VICE emulator?

The homepage mentions an upcoming app store, so they may have their own application. A screenshot could help.

You're probably thinking of Synaptic. (The "package manager" in Debian derivatives is a set of command-line tools called apt -- Synaptic is the graphical front-end; Software Manager is Mint's more user-friendly alternative.)

You may want to consider a more mainstream distro. This looks retro-bizarro.

I know Mint and SolusOS have great communities; other popular choices are Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, and Arch.

Oh so mint and commodoreOS are totally different and I'd probably be better off going with mint? I hope mint won't end up being as big of a pain in the ass to install as this one was then..

No, Mint is pretty easy to install.

No, it's simple. I recommend using a linuxliveusb to play with different versions. I played with three version of mint until I settled on mint 14 cinnamon. Installed and runs great, but I did have a problem with Wi-Fi but a few Google searches and I had it back up. Stupid propriety software. Go open source!!!
