Ubuntu: Recent updates: unable to move cursor at logon

During the updates that recently were available and downloaded by myself, I moved to re-boot the computer as per the update request. Upon boot up, I was unable to move my cursor (unlike as it was prior to the updates and with other kernals) to the login window to place my login credentials. Am using 12.10 (not LTS).

I have to log in via the Grub Advanced Menu Options and use the previous kernal for logging in to conduct my business.

(1) I use a wireless mouse. Have tried to unplug/re-plug in transiever to no avail.
(2) Have tried a corded mouse to no avail.
(3) When trying to get into the Recovery Mode for Kernal linux-image-3.5.0-25-generic (latest kernal release), I cannot move the up/down arrow keys on the keyboard. ESC does not function either for that recovery mode. Basically, nothing. Even random key entries do nothing for the Recovery Mode for this particular kernal imag
(4) Various and random keyboard keys do not work. These include Alt+Ctrl+T, Num Lock, ESC, SHIFT, etc.
(5) switching USB transievers to separate ports. Both from 3.0 to 2.0 were to no effect.
(6) cursor/blinking line for login credentials visible and blinking; however, as stated already unable to move mouse over for effecting any login credentials to no effect

It is the kernal version linux-image-3.5.0-25-generic 3.5.0-25.38 amd64 Linux kernel image for version 3.5.0 on 64 bit x86 SMP that is causing my life these headaches at the moment. Good grief!! (wipes back of hand from forehead).
Currently, I have had to resort to using linux-image-3.5.0-24-generic 3.5.0-24.37 amd64 Linux kernel image for version 3.5.0 on 64 bit x86 SMP to engage the operating system.

Using the Recovery Method for the newest kernal poses no positive results. I cannot move arrow keys nor any other keyboard keys either. In both instances I have had to hard-boot off which is something that I dont really like to do.

I have posted on the Ubuntu forums for some help but have not receieved any help for the last couple of days. One fellow did help me but I think he ran out of ideas. Praise him for having helped me up to a point.

Sorry, have got no new piece of advice for you in addition to what the guy in the Ubuntu forum posted.
Yet, a piece of news, for good or for bad, who can tell:
Kernel 3.5.0-25 (#39) has just been published. - As the version string has not changed, it is a bugfix only.
You might like to read the change log(s) and then decide whether there is a chance that Kernel 3.5.0-25 (#39) fixes the problem which Kernel 3.5.0-25 (#38) seems to have introduced to your system.
Personally, I have just installed Kernel 3.5.0-25 (#39) and rebooted, because it is a bugfix, though I have not noticed being affected by any bug really. Yet, this Mint 14 system (Ubuntu 12.10 based) exists for the purpose of testing Mint 14 (Ubuntu 12.10). My productive systems all run on Mint 13 or genuine Ubuntu 12.04.2.
