The non geeks are coming to Linux so a fall of, at least, the relative importance of Slackware and Gentoo and some others is to be expected.....

Slackware is a great distro, but hopelessly stuck in the 1990's. It's still not going anywhere anytime soon. Debian has to be my favorite, but they aren't making any remarkable changes to the distro either. I think offshoots may steer popularity away from the pure distros. Parsix is coming along quite nicely.

it just sticks with traditional Unix values.
Which will make it a small half forgotten toy for geeks
Note - I am not saying it's a bad distro
